Keep your child’s love for STEM thriving with VEX Robotics. Get your kids involved in the world’s largest robotics movement and give them the opportunity to learn, have fun, and develop life-long skills.
We know your kids love their HEXBUG toys – why else would you be here? Kids play with their BattleBots for hours, but at some point, they want to know how to build their own. That’s when you know that they’re ready for more. They want to know the science behind their robotic toys and we want to help them develop that passion!
By the time they reach high school, many kids already have a favorite subject in school and have decided what they’re good at. That’s why it’s so important to show them how much fun STEM subjects can be at an early age. What better way to do that than by introducing them to the VEX Robotics program?
What is VEX Robotics & What does it have to do with HEXBUG?

VEX Robotics, a sister company of HEXBUG, was created to give students the opportunity to design and innovate as part of a team and embrace STEM. The program is unique because it was designed to grow with kids who participate, becoming more advanced as they mature and become more knowledgeable.
It consists of 3 divisions: VEX IQ, VEX EDR, and VEX U. So, let’s break down what each division of VEX Robotics is and who can get involved.
- VEX IQ: 8-14 year olds (Students may start participating in competitions in 4th grade)
- VEX EDR: 11-18 year olds
- VEX U: College aged students
The VEX Robotics program provides classroom curriculum, workshops and camps for kids to participate in. It also offers the VEX Robotics Competition, the largest global robotics program, and the VEX Robotics World Championship, which is the largest robotics competition in the world – no really, it holds the Guinness World Record!

About VEX IQ
Kids can jump into VEX IQ as young as second grade. They begin by building robots with plastic pieces that snap together. In fact, they use the same colorful pieces that all HEXBUG VEX Robotics toys use.
Participants in VEX IQ build and code their robots with some adult supervision and guidance. Students can enter competitive competitions for VEX IQ beginning in fourth grade.
About VEX EDR
As they grow older, students smoothly transition into VEX EDR, which uses aluminum and steel parts instead of plastic. This branch still has adult supervision, but minimal guidance, urging kids to take ownership of their designs.
Even after their K-12 years are complete, kids can compete in VEX Robotics during college through the VEX U program, where students are given more flexibility to customize their robots.
How to Get Involved
Getting involved in a robotics program is easier than you think! Start by talking to your child’s school- they may already have a VEX Robotics program or a competition team.
If your child’s school doesn’t have a program, get in touch with your Regional Support Manager. They can help you get started. You can also check out this list to see what workshops and camps are offered in your area.
Why Robotics is Important for Kids
VEX Robotics gives your child the opportunity to learn how to program and code a robot while learning life skills like communication and critical thinking, making new friends, and having fun!
