Thanksgiving is coming up and we have so much to be thankful for! Time with family, friends and everyone we care about. Not to mention all of the food! It can be tough to keep the kids entertained while everyone is busy prepping food and table settings, but we’ve got you covered!
This easy DIY turkey build will have the kids playing and learning all day long! Pull out those VEX pieces and enjoy some family time this holiday with this STEM DIY Thanksgiving turkey with VEX pieces!
- 4×4 Plate Black (6)
2. Corner Connectors
- Small Chassis Corner Connector Black (10)
- Large Chassis Corner Connector Red (1)
- 1x Wide, 1×1 Offset Corner Connect Yellow (4)
- 2x Wide, 2×1 Corner Connector (Blue) (2)
3. Connector Pins
- 0x2 Connector Pin Black (8)
- 0x2 Connector Pin Red (2)
- 0x2 Connector Pin Yellow (1)
- 0x3 Connector Pin Yellow (2)
- 1×2 Connector Pin Light Grey (1)
- 1×2 Beam Pink (1)
- 1×5 Beam Yellow (1)
- 1×5 Beam Orange (2)
- 1×6 Beam Red (2)
- 2×3 Beam Black (2)
- 3×3 30 Degree Angle Beam Yellow (2)
5. Pitch Spacer
- 0.25x Pitch Spacer White (2)
- 0.25x Pitch Spacer Yellow (2)
Step 1 – Create A Box
a. Take two 4×4 Black Plates and attach four Small Black Chassis Corner Connectors to the corners of both plates. Make sure the corner of the Chassis is aligned with the corner of the Plate.
b. Take two 4×4 Black Plates. Attach one to the side of the first 4×4 Plate in Step 1a so that they are perpendicular to one another. Repeat this step for the two other plates. Connect the plates so that it forms a box shape.
Step 2 – Add Wings
a. With the pin facing up, connect a Small Black Chassis Corner Connector to the sides of the box in the middle hole of the second row from the bottom.
b. Attach the top inside corner of a Black 2×3 Beam to the pin of the Small Black Chassis Corner Connector on either side of the box.
c. Adjust the wing to a suitable angle.
Step 3 – Create Tail Feathers
a. Place a Yellow 0x2 Connector Pin at the end of the Yellow 1×5 Beam and connect it to the middle hole in the second row of the back of the box.
b. Use two Red 0x2 Connector Pins to attach the Orange 1×5 Beams to the box on either side of the Yellow Beam in Step 3a.
c. Take a Yellow 0x3 Connector Pin and place it at the end of the 3×3 30 Degree Angle Yellow Beam and connect it to a Red 1×6 Beam. Repeat this step. Place the Red and Yellow Beams on either side of the back of the box just above the Black Corner Connector Pins.
Step 4 – Give Your Turkey A Head
a. On the box, opposite the side of the feathers, add two Blue 2x Wide, 2×1 Corner Connectors to the top middle holes. Thus creating the neck.
b. Connect a Large Red Chassis Connector piece to the top of the Blue Corner Connectors in Step 4a.
c. Add two Yellow 0.25x Pitch Spacers to the top of pin the Large Red Chassis Connector and a 1×2 Pink Beam to the bottom pin of the Large Red Chassis Connector.
d. Put the long side of the Light Grey 1×2 Connector Pin through the top hole of the Large Red Chassis Connector. Add a White 0.25x Pitch Spacer to either end of the Light Grey Connector Pin for eyes.
Step 5 – Add Feet
a. Make a foot by connecting two Yellow 1x Wide, 1×1 Offset Corner Connectors. Do this again for the other foot.
b. Place both of the feet on the bottom of the box in the outside holes of the second row from the back.
