In the quaint Spanish moss covered city of Savannah, Georgia, a woman named Juliette Gordon Low started the organization for young girls known today as the Girl Scouts of America. Fast forward over 100 years, the Girl Scouts are continuously expanding and giving young girls the opportunity to become better problem-solvers, critical thinkers, and more effective leaders.
According to their website, Girls Scouts of the United States of America has built a multiyear initiative to put 2.5 million girls through hands-on STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs by the year 2025 called Girl Scout STEM Pledge. Young girls will be able to have access to real-life insight from STEM professionals who want to pour support and inspiration into them.
Currently, over 160,000 Girl Scouts participate in STEM programs annually and with this large amount, 77% of girls say that, because of Girl Scouts, they are considering a career in technology. 74% of girls in Imagine Your STEM Future agree that in the program, they learned more by hands-on play than being told tasks and this is a fact that supports the idea that everything in life can be told but nothing will truly be taught until action is followed.
Girl Scouts have always learned by doing and in order to grow, they utilize STEM-related skills such as building and designing things, problem-solving, researching and finding solutions which are exactly what skills that are used here at HEXBUG. With VEX Robotics by HEXBUG kits, girls can enhance these abilities and test their innovative instincts and embrace being Girl Powered®!
HEXBUG is designed to give children a positive experience with robotics at a young age, and foster an interest and understanding of STEM. We want to spread the love of STEM to all platforms. Learn more about HEXBUG here.
