In 1977 “Star Wars: A New Hope” hit theaters, and whisked audiences off to a galaxy far, far away. George Lucas’s sci-fi brainchild followed the story of the Skywalker family and their struggle in navigating between the light and dark sides of the Force. 40 years later, this singular film has transformed into a billion-dollar empire complete with sequel/prequel films, merchandise, cartoons, a holiday special, theme park attractions, and a slew of conventions. Star Wars changed the landscape of modern cinematography, proving to be one of the most beloved and timeless franchises ever.
The Star Wars universe has a lot to offer both casual and hardcore fans; the expansive nature of the universe reels people in, allowing them to experience aspects of this film far after the credits have rolled. People still want more – and from that notion, a holiday was born. Each year on May the 4th we pay homage to these films on a holiday titled “May the 4th Be With You”, a one-off of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi’s famous antidote to Luke Skywalker, “May the Force be with you.”
Both HEXBUG and VEX Robotics participate in celebrating this day on social media (@hexbug, @vexrobotics) with posts that pay homage to beloved characters and symbols of the series (below are some images from previous years). Take a moment today to reminisce on your love of the Star Wars, whether that means watching the films, dressing as your favorite character, or building your own lightsaber, like all dedicated Jedi would! Have fun, and may the Force be with you!
