Need a creative go-to for family night or maybe an activity to occupy a group of kids with? In this HEXBUG DIY we’ll show you how to make a game that’s easy to assemble, affordable, and fun for any age. KerPlunk is the classic game where contestants take turns withdrawing colored rods from a plastic tunnel, releasing marbles. In this new twist on an old favorite, marbles are replaced with HEXBUG AquaBots and the tunnel has now become a colander, submerged underwater! Strategically, take turns pulling skewers one by one, until the AquaBots are accidentally released! The player who lets the robotic fish out loses!
Before you begin: This underwater DIY “KerPlunk” game involves bamboo skewers, which can be sharp. You may want to ask an adult to cut off the ends of each stick to ensure no one gets poked on accident.
- Char-Broil® Bamboo skewers ($1.99, target.com)
- Regent Products Plastic Colander ($6.93, bonanaza.com – any colander with large holes will do)
- HEXBUG AquaBot 2.0 with Deco ($12.99, hexbug.com) – CLICK HERE to see the HEXBUG AquaBots!
STEP 1: Fill your bathtub or sink about halfway with water, enough to fully submerge the colander.
STEP 2: Add your desired AquaBots (a lot or just a few work) to the colander.
STEP 3: Start adding skewers horizontally across the top of colander. Stick each skewer through a hole on one side of the colander and through to the corresponding hole on the other side. Repeat this step until you’ve created a tight crisscross of skewers that your AquaBots couldn’t escape if you were to flip the game over.
STEP 4: Submerge your game underwater. Make sure it is secure in place at the basin of your tub/sink.
STEP 5: Enjoy your brand-new DIY game and may the most strategic player win!
