AquaBots are the incredible robotic fish that are so lifelike, you won’t believe your eyes. Watch them swim around their bowls just like a real pet fish would, or let them roam free in your swimming pool! Most popularly, AquaBots are regarded as the ultimate bathtub toy.
After bath time fun many children leave their fish in the nooks and shelves of their bathtub until the next bath. The issue this poses is: the AquaBots are still in contact with water, which automatically activates them. If Mom or Dad goes to take a shower and water splashes onto the fish, the AquaBot might begin to flap thinking its playtime, which would result in dulled down batteries.
The obvious solution would be to remove the fish from the tub area all together but having your must-have toys so far away from their place of use is inconvenient. We at HEXBUG DIY have come up with a way for you to keep your AquaBots in the tub while keeping them in ideal condition until the next tub-time adventure, with customized DIY HEXBUG AquaBot storage cases.
Materials Needed:
- HEXBUG AquaBot 2.0 With Deco Single Pack ($12.99, hexbug.com)
- Travel Soap Dish – up & up ($0.97, target.com)
- BIC Mark-IT Permanent Markers, Fine Point, Assorted 12/Set ($3.99, target.com)
- Gimmie Clips Primary Plastic Elastics [275 Count] ($3.99, target.com)
Before you begin, you may want to check with an adult to make sure you’re working in a permanent marker-safe space.
STEP 1
Make sure your travel soap dish is free from all stickers and labels. With warm water try to wipe away any remaining sticker residue so your designs are clearly visible.
STEP 2
Open your soap dish and lay out both pieces. Use the markers to decorate the underside of each piece. You may decorate using your markers on the outside of your dish as well, but we find that the inner-side has a brighter and longer-lasting appearance.
STEP 3
Let your two pieces dry before re-assembling them to view your final product. Keep the container sealed extra tight by wrapping elastic bands around the outside of the case. Colored elastics add a really nice finishing touch!
And just like that, your customized DIY HEXBUG AquaBot storage case is complete. Don’t forget to take photos; we want to see your results! Upload to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Use the hashtag “#HEXDIY” and tag us @HEXBUG.
