Grandson loved it
He said “Grandpa, this is my best present ever.” Of course, he loves BattleBots. Bots are amazingly realistic.
Best for Teen or Young Adult who likes gaming and who will take care of their toys.
Purchased (along with 2 other bots from a different site) for identical 10 year old triplet boys. The boys have enjoyed playing with the set and so far (fingers crossed) nothing has broken and the batteries have lasted longer than expected.
The boys main complaint is that the arena is too small (only 3-5 bot lengths, depending on the bot) and so they have been building a larger lego arena to use. The bots travel rather fast and it is super hard to have any control over them in the small arena. The controllers are really small and require two hands AND good finger eye coordination, which the boys don't have. With both hands needing to be on the controller, there is no spare hand for controlling the hammers on the arena. Since they love the TV show, they have the motivation to play with the set and hopefully it will help them develop better hand eye coordination.
2nd complaint is that the bots are not evenly matched. The panels are held on by magnets. Some bots lose their panels more easily than others. and some, because of size, are harder to control in the small arena. Highly recommend that one purchase more bots than the 2 that come in the set.
I did not see it in the instructions, but one of the boys explained to me that you could tell the winner by the number of panels, if any, that were still retained by the bot at the end of a round. The set does not include a timer, so they seem to play until one bot does not have any removable panels still attached.
Buy at least one extra pair of bots so you can match them according to ability and have spares for when one breaks. Expensive toy that becomes unplayable if any part, except the arena, is damaged (and that is easy to do.) It is fun to play with and gets the kids away from the all electronic games and phones.
No problems whatsoever with this set. Myself and my son 5.5yr old love it and have all the bots now.
It was just given today but I can say it was a BIG hit. So far it is holding up to a lot of play. I do worry because they seem fragile. The floor is not plastic but cardboard which was a downer, I hope it can last
Great product! Hours of fun!
We bought the arena set with tombstone and witch doctor along with the extra set with beta and Minotaur for our daughter’s birthday. Overall, we love it! Setting up the arena was super easy, and it is easy to get accustomed to syncing the remotes and channels with their respective bots. My wife, daughter and I already played for an hour with 3 bots in the arena and we had a blast! My only advice would be to watch out for hair getting entangled in the mechanisms that allow the weapons to spin/rotate. After an hour of gameplay Minotaur’s weapon ceased to rotate, but upon closer inspection we noticed some hair tangled up by the weapon. After removing the entangled hair, the weapon proceeded to work normally again. Great product and we look forward to more bots coming out!
Cool idea and the fighting mechanism makes it look surreal, but it's a little overpriced.
Not the worst, but not the best.
Shouting, laughing, uproarious fun for all!
My son used his birthday money to buy this and he, his friends, and I have been having a blast with it! The bots really race around the arena, which looks ubercool as a "Rumbledome" in miniature, and the controls are very tight. Our set has the Tombstone and the Witch Doctor, which look mismatched in ability, but upon playing are actually pretty balanced, the Tombstone having more destructive power, but the WD controlling better and having the ability to flip Tombstone over on his back. We battle until one bot loses all its detachable parts, declaring the other bot the winner, and matches can carry on for some time as the combatants circle each other and try to rev up a run to slam the other bot into the corner and smash him with the mallet. I agree with other comments that assembly can be a little difficult in that the walls don't slot in perfectly (hint: put the corners in first separately, then slot in the walls), and more bots would definitely be welcome, but despite these imperfections, this is an awesome toy! My son got his set for $50 in a Thanksgiving night "Black Friday" doorbuster sale at Target, but even at $80, this is a great value, with potentially hours and hours of shouting, laughing, uproarious fun!
With only witch doctor tombstone beta and minotaur there is not many different fight combos you can make. By the way did bronco used to be in the game?
5 year old loves it
Just got this for my son for his 5th birthday. He is absolutely obsessed with battlebots and has been playing with it non stop since he opened it. Hubby and I are having a lot of fun with it too! Hopefully more remote controlled battlebots will be available in the future.
need more bots!!!!!
Cool, but we need replacement parts
Great fun and cool idea. However one of the remotes will not move forward any longer. I've been searching to see if I could replace, with no results so far.
Good but needs a couple slight changes
My kids love this thing.... we all had fun with it, but as has been mentioned several times above the nut on the top of Tombstone comes off easily and is now lost.
love love love BattleBots
Our family got the BattleBots Arena with Witchdoctor and Tombstone for Christmas. Bottom line, we LOVE it! We are huge fans of the show, and how cool is it to have the arena in your living room!? :) The arena seems a bit fragile, but we've been gentle with it so far and have had no problems with it. We're really enjoying playing BattleBots with each other, and I agree with the other posters - bring on more Bots!! I'd love to see Stinger and Minotaur... :D Two thumbs up for this toy!
Tons of fun!
Having a blast with this. We want additional bots to choose from. Having the same issue Witchdoctor is having. The bolt on the top of Tombstone's spinner keeps coming off.
Excellent product, once you get past the few minor flaws.
Excellent once you get past a few minor flaws! The wall corners were near impossible to put on the arena floor without messing up the cardboard holes in some way. The tiny nut that holds Tombstones blade on keeps flying off. Luckily we found it and used a dab of elmers glue on the threads, hasnt fell off since. Desperately needs more bots! With the ability to have 4 channels on the remotes this thing would be a blast with 4 different bots going at it! Overall my son and I love it! Tombstone and Witchdoctor are both surprisingly balanced! They both have their on strengths and weaknesses, just like the real thing! Just a few minor flaws. We added a small clip on kitchen timer to our wall so we would have an official timer! Thank you HexBug!
One of my favorite collector toys, and child's playing thing.
I really do like this product. Because that reminds me of my favorite show that you just build, fight, win.
Great Toy for the boys
The toy is perfect for a family game night. Competitive atmosphere that's easy to comprehend for the young. Needs to have more options for the Arena members (i.e. Bronco).
Great fun, and will am certainly getting my money's worth out of it, but seriously: did anyone run this though product trials (like actually using it for more that 20 minutes) before releasing it?
- Right off the bat, had some issues with the nut that holds on Tombstone's spinner. It's tiny and was immediately lost. Rigged something up, and moved on.
- Also had problems with one of the controllers. The "bubble" on the circuit board for one of the buttons delaminated, but I fixed that too.
- Ran into the same problem from previous reviewer that Witch Doctor gets hung up on the fold across the middle of the arena. I turned the board upside and don't have the problem any more.
- The way the wall mount to the board is terrible. If anyone got that to work without destroying the cardboard, good on you.
- Once all the "bugs" were worked out, this thing is a blast. The bots get an amazing amount of run time on the batteries, and my son and I play this more than any other toy, including his WII U.
Hexbug really needs to make a Minataur and a Beta model, among others. The controllers are set up for 4 frequencies, and having four bots in the ring would be a lot of fun. I know we'd collect them all.
Needs other bots too
My son loves battlebots and is very much enjoying this playset. The arena needs to be a little bigger and bronco needs to be added.
ITs ok but the price is to much
The price is a bit much but it's so much fun!! Tombstone's pieces come of a little to easily and can't drive in the middle of the arena. Other than that these are amazing and I can't wait for more!
You get what you paid for. Amazing product!
Very cool! The arena is quite big, included with hammers that work. Witch doctor is fun to play with, along with tombstone!
Great toy for big and little kids
Tons of fun! My son and I love playing. $80 is a bit steep but you get 2 bots and the arena. The pulverizers are great. I hope there is a bronco out soon. He is my fav bot
