HEXBUG was recently featured in an article on TMC’s Info Tech Spotlight.
I was enjoying a busy day of holiday shopping at the local mall when I walked by an intriguing display full of robotic bugs. Since I am something of a techie and also the office expert on Robobees, I decided to do a closer inspection.
The robotic bugs, called HEXBUGS, are marketed as “Micro Robotic Creatures,” and are sold by Innovation First Labs, Inc.. And I am not the only one who finds HEXBUGS kind of cool – the product earned slot number seven on Dr Toy’s Ten Best Children’s Products of 2010 list.
The battery-powered HEXBUGS come in a variety of different options, including an inchworm, crab, ant, nano and original models. They are equipped with sensors that allow them to react to light, sound and of course… one and other.
Robyn’s Online World blog featured the entire HEXBUG line as great alternative Easter gifts:
I would even have to agree with Taylor on this one and go for the super cool Hexbug! It might be small, but it is mighty in it’s fun. Don’t think they are just for the kids either, adults (like me) love these little robotic creatures just as much as the younger ones. While the bunny is super cute, what am I really going to do with it? Plus the Hexbug is a fantastic alternative to candy – do we really need to buy our kids all that chocolate and sugar? The Hexbug I can keep out and play with 365 days a year!

The blog ‘How did I ever live without it?’ named HEXBUGs their toy of the week on Saturday, March 6.
There is the Original, which resembles a roach, an inchworm, a crab, and the nano. We have a couple of the nanos. They are pretty cool and always a favorite among E-Rays friends when they come over to play.
Engadget visited our booth at the New York Toy Fair and wrote up a quick review along with a bunch of photos.
Okay, so it isn’t as artsy as making gooey bugs in a miniature oven, but HexBug’s little micro-robotic tchotchkes are a good time in their own right. The digital entomologists at HexBugs decided to unleash the new Ant Micro and Nano Newton at New York City’s Toy Fair, and for some peculiar reason we were quite enamored with watching these autonomous, high speed creatures run around the carpeted show floor.
The Woot.com Blog is covering Toy Fair 2010, and gives their take on the HEXBUG Nano & Ant.
The Nano’s also are collectable, and give you points that you can use on the website to… win at robots, or something. Maybe eventually you’ll be able to redeem them for Cobra Commander. We didn’t really take good notes. But we did get to enjoy the Ant!
Online publication Compute Scotland contemplate in their article:
“Gaberlunzie was amused by one Valentine suggestion of Hexbugs and is considering whether the top of the range inchworm, or more limited crab, ant or nano would be most appealing to someone who loathes spiders!”
UK’s The Times Playlist Saturday Supplement (12-18th December 2009) with a circulation of 1.7 million feature the Hexbugs in their 10 of the Best Gadgets for Christmas
“Hexbugs are a range of robotic micro-insects that scuttle around in an authentically unpleasant way and react to sound and touch. Larger ones get full remote control. Kids and cats will love either”
