Mike says: “The bug almost looks like a thing a GCSE or A level student may make for a exam since its built out of coloured yet clear perspex. This means you can see the circuit board and gears that make it work. That is something I like about it as it makes you wonder if I could make one.

2009 GeekDad Holiday Gift Guide #3: Toys & Games

HEXBUG Nano has made the GeekDad Holiday Gift Guide in the Toys & Games section.

HEXBUG Nano are tiny battery powered robots that use tiny vibrations and engineered legs to propel themselves forward. Specially designed to mimic the behavior of real bugs, they scurry over small obstacles and pop back up on their feet when knocked over. Shop Talk: 4 trends in holiday retailing

The Dallas Morning News has called the HEXBUG Nano one of the hottest toys of the holiday season.

One of the hottest toys this season is a bug native to Texas. Hexbug Nano is on every hot toy list this year. The $7.99 micro robotic creatures are the creation of Greenville-based Innovation First International. The little robots flip from their back onto their feet and can navigate a maze. The bugs are sold at RadioShack and Toys R Us. Larger, older versions of Hexbugs cost $9.99 and have antennae that sense obstructions and make a 90-degree turn.

Bugging Out – Hexbug Micro Robotic Creatures

These micro robots are hugely entertaining, and make great stocking stuffers. The Hexbugs come in five different insect-like styles – the Original bug design, the Ant, the Inchworm, the Crab and the Nano. Each robotic creature reacts slightly differently when switched on.
